Meet Rens and Gijs. Raised in Brabant, they made their mark at Smelt Amsterdam. Two true bon vivants with a great passion for gastronomy. Together, they gathered the courage, cast iron pans, and quite a few kilos of Gruyere, and headed south with Restaurant Smelt. As of September 1st, they will be melting cheeses in none other than Korte Putstraat in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
Our fondues are made with the finest French, Dutch, and Swiss cheeses from De Kaaskamer in Amsterdam. Each cheese is personally and carefully tasted, selected, and melted. We serve this along with artisanal sourdough bread and fresh seasonal vegetables.
We have transformed the second floor into a space with 18 extra seats. If requested in advance, this area is available for groups of up to 16 people seeking a more private experience. The same warm atmosphere and delicious fondues, fully catered for your own party.

Yes, we sell some of our fondues ready-made at De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam in De 9-Straatjes in Amsterdam.
At Restaurant Smelt, we cook with wines that have a low alcohol content (0.5%). During cooking, some of the alcohol evaporates, reducing the alcohol percentage even further. Our beer fondue(s) contain higher alcohol percentages and are therefore not suitable for pregnant women.
