No, we’re not kidding. Restaurant Smelt is going South. In November, we will open our doors in the former Café de Bossche Poort. It will be rebuild into Breda’s newest cheesy hotspot, but with the same cosiness of a traditional pub. With blood, sweat and kilos of Gruyère, we are preparing for the opening. Meet Tjeerd. A true host and bon vivant pur sang. To embark on this new adventure, he packed his bags and moved to Breda. Full of enthusiasm and good cheer, he will soon welcome you to his new restaurant. Make yourselves at home!
Our fondues are made from the finest French, Dutch, and of course, Swiss cheeses from De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam. Each cheese is personally and carefully selected, melted, and served with artisanal bread and fresh seasonal vegetables.

Yes, we sell some of our fondues ready-made at De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam in De 9-Straatjes in Amsterdam.
At Restaurant Smelt, we cook with wines that have a low alcohol content (0.5%). During cooking, some of the alcohol evaporates, reducing the alcohol percentage even further. Our beer fondue(s) contain higher alcohol percentages and are therefore not suitable for pregnant women.
